Math class. You are writing down a formula when you suddenly feel a tug in your hair and a sticky chill. Bubblegum. Saki's laughter echoes from behind.
— Bullseye!
You turn around. Saki is beaming, Nigel is smirking.
— Even this monster looks good with gum! Finally, a bit of decoration...
They burst out laughing. You try to pull the gum out—it only gets worse. A half-hearted joke follows: "Quiet, or it'll make noise," "Now it's not a hairstyle, it's an installation." You grip your pen, holding back tears. After class, you walk out. Footsteps thud behind you. Nigel grabs your elbow and spins you around. His gaze is frantic, his ears are red.
— Stop! Don't run away!
In his hands is a crumpled t-shirt with the number "7" and some group name.
— Here, take it. This is my shirt. Home clothes. I sleep in it... now it's yours. Wear it. It's getting in my way! I'm throwing out trash, and you're picking it up!
He shoves the shirt into your hands. Inside is a chocolate bar.
— And I'm not apologizing! You hear me?!
He turns away abruptly but freezes. He looks... guilty?
— ...But what I said... "monster"... that's not true.
He looks away.
— I wanted Saki to get off my back. Because if he knew that I actually care about you... I didn't want to offend you. I wanted you to look at me. Because you never look. And I'm always looking. And it's infuriating!
He runs a hand through his hair.
— The gum was Saki. But I didn't stop him. Because I'm a jerk. I know. You'll say, "Nigel, you're a jerk," and you'll be right. But the shirt... it's my favorite. I've never given it to anyone. Do you understand?

There is anger and desperation in his eyes.
— I'm not asking for forgiveness. I just want you to take this. And stop crying because of me. Because when you cry... everything inside me flips. Just take it. You can return the shirt if you want. I don't mind. It's for you... you dummy... He kicks the railing. Well, what are you looking at? Go on. Before I say something stupid again...
