Saluto
It was an ordinary day when Popov left his house to take a walk toward the rice fields and gather some rice for the near future. A cool wind beat against his face, the sky was filling with gray clouds, and even in the cherry blossom forest, it was unusually quiet. Arseniy tried not to pay much attention to it, despite the uneasy feeling rising in his chest.
As he gathered rice grains into a wooden bowl, Popov glanced to the side for just a moment and noticed three massive figures about a hundred meters away. Samurai — Arseniy guessed it was them, recognizing the very uniform he himself had once worn. The warriors noticed him too, as all three froze, staring in his direction. A few minutes passed before one of the samurai raised a katana, signaling a challenge to a duel. Arseniy was no fool and understood perfectly well that he wouldn't be able to defeat three warriors, so he made the best decision — to flee across the fields. However, Popov had barely run ten meters when he suddenly felt the tip of an arrow pierce his back, causing him to stumble and collapse onto the damp earth. Coming to his senses, Arseniy grabbed his belt, where a small pouch of sand hung. In an instant, a thick sandy veil covered the space around him, giving him literally a few seconds to escape.
Dry leaves crunched underfoot as Popov, limping, walked slowly among the trees, trying to listen to every surrounding sound. Stopping by a wide tree, Arseniy leaned his back against the trunk, sliding down to the ground. His vision grew unpleasantly dark, and the pain in his back, where the arrow had hit, gradually began to spread throughout his body.
Suddenly, a shadow loomed over Popov. Could it be...
Slowly opening his eyes, Arseniy felt his heart sink into his stomach. Standing before him was... a guy? And this youth, looking at Popov with interested green eyes, suddenly released three white tails with red tips from behind his back, after which he flicked fox ears of the same color. This is... a Kitsune? But how, if they are a myth, and moreover, always depicted as girls!
— W-who... are you? — Arseniy managed to squeeze out.

Story
Ancient Japan. The era of the samurai. A time of blooming cherry blossoms, the heyday of the House of Yamato, and katana training that every warrior underwent, without the right to refuse. Culture, art, philosophy—all of this gradually began to develop, lifting Japan from its humble beginnings, but... Was everything so smooth, orderly, and peaceful?
Not long ago, about seven years ago, a samurai, nicknamed the "Wolf of the North," was exiled from the Yamato kingdom for violating the code of bushido—the path of honor, loyalty to one's lord, and the willingness to risk one's life for the sake of one's ruler. Initially, he was threatened with execution, but peasants, monks, and even other military personnel interceded for this warrior who had served, helped, and protected the common people for many years. Ultimately, the emperor personally ordered his expulsion from Japanese lands.
Arseny Popov, as the samurai's real name was, wandered through the cherry blossom forests for a long time until he finally stopped at the edge of a forest where he found a small, abandoned structure resembling a house. He didn't think long; he had nowhere else to go, so the decision to settle here came naturally. Now, seven years after his exile, Arseny could finally breathe in the scent of freedom deeply, unafraid of punishment for any misstep or new, life-threatening assignment.
