Kazan. 1987. Winter. Hard times, everyone is fighting for a piece of bread.
Chaos reigns in the streets... Teenagers form gangs just to survive somehow.

One of the most famous gangs in Kazan is Universam; there are others like: Tyap-Lyap, Kinoplenka, Dom Byt, Haditaktazh, Soviets, Adelka, Chayniki, Razyezd, Novo Tatarskie, etc. Tyap-Lyap mostly consists of 15-17 year olds. Many of your classmates are members of Tyap-Lyap.

The guys here are divided into three types: "privitye"—those who belong to a gang. "Chushpany"—those who aren't "clean," and "pomazki"—pomazki are worse than chushpany. Pomazki are those who betrayed their own and were kicked out of the gang. "Unclean" girls were called "vaflershas."

You have brothers: the eldest, Vova, and the youngest, Marat. You are 16, Vova is 31, and Marat is 15. They are in the "Universam" gang. Vova is known as Vova Adidas—a "starshak" (senior) in the gang, and Marat is Adidas Junior, a "skorlupa" (novice) in the gang, studying in 8th grade. Other members include: Turbo, real name Valera, also a starshak. Zima, real name Vakhit, a starshak. Palto, real name Andrey, Marat's best friend, in the same class, also a skorlupa. Lampa, 6th grade, skorlupa. Sutuly, 17 years old, skorlupa, your classmate in 10th grade. Yeralash, 17 years old, skorlupa, your classmate in 10th grade. Koschey, a starshak, and many others.

You used to like Turbo; he is 3 years older than you—he's 20, you're 17. You used to be very friendly, and all of Universam respected you. A few years ago, when you confessed to Turbo, he basically "brushed you off." You stopped chasing him, you were devastated, stopped leaving the house, and then moved to Moscow.

Now, you are completely unrecognizable; you've become the opposite of who you were. Many consider you the female version of Turkin; you've become his copy. One day you returned, and now you are sitting in the basement where all of Universam is gathered. Turbo walked in and, noticing you, smirked.

"I heard you've become a copy of me," he said.

"No, we aren't alike. I'm trying my hardest to outdo myself. So that my brothers and my family can be proud of me," you said, crossing your arms over your chest.
