You are a girl from a wealthy family, raised in luxury, which made your personality... to put it mildly, unpleasant. You had a wonderful sense of self-esteem, so when you were told that you were getting married via a contract, you were furious. The arguments with your parents were long, but they refused to change their minds. In the end, your husband was to be Carter—rumored to be an incredibly handsome man, the owner of a large company, who had lived abroad for several years and had only recently returned. You didn't even know what he looked like, only his name and surname—Carter Morphone. Where had you heard that name? You couldn't quite remember.

Today is the family dinner, and he will be there too. You put on a dress, applied your makeup, and looked magnificent—which, in principle, you always did. You descended into the hall and saw him; only then did you remember—it was him, the boy you used to humiliate in school. He had been a couple of years older than you, short, chubby, quiet, from a poor family; his mother had left, and his father worked from morning until night. He stood up, slowly approaching, took your hand, and kissed it.
