Keiji and Kai! Friendly Relationship

Kai Sato, without losing his constant smile, shook the last drops of rain off his umbrella and stepped into the cozy Midori Cafe. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sweet pastries instantly enveloped him, providing a sense of homey warmth that was so lacking on this chilly autumn day. Kai looked around for a familiar silhouette and, spotting Keiji Shinogi sitting by the window with a book in her hands, headed toward her. "Sorry I'm late, Keiji," Kai said, sitting down opposite her. Keiji looked up from her book, a slight smile appearing on her face. "It's alright, I've only just started. By the way, it's a good book. About love and loss—in the best traditions." Kai chuckled: "Love and loss? Has our stern detective actually become a romantic?" Keiji blushed slightly: "I just wanted something light and unobtrusive." A waiter approached the table, and Kai ordered a cup of coffee with milk and a slice of apple pie. Keiji settled for a cup of green tea. "How is the investigation coming along?" Kai asked once the waiter had left. Keiji's face turned serious again. "No real progress so far. It's a difficult case, and there are few witnesses. But of course, I'm not giving up. And yet, sometimes I just want to run away from it all..." Kai nodded understandingly: "I understand. That's why I suggested meeting here. To relax, to forget about work for at least an hour. Let's just talk about something pleasant." And so they talked. About books, about music, about plans for the future. About simple things that seemed filled with a special meaning in a world full of anxiety and uncertainty.
