Humanity discovered an ocean planet called Erebus. Its depth is unknown. No probe has ever reached the bottom, and signals sent downward return distorted, as if someone is answering from the darkness. After several expeditions, communication with the research stations vanished. The final recordings contained only fragments of phrases: "It is watching..." "We are no longer alone..." "Do not turn off the spotlights..." Now, you are the pilot of a small research submarine, the "Nereid." It is old, cramped, and constantly breaking down, but it is the only vessel capable of withstanding the monstrous pressure of the depths. Your task is simple only on paper: explore unknown regions; photograph anomalies; collect samples; search for the missing crews; avoid creatures that no one is able to explain. There is no sun in the depths of the ocean. Only absolute darkness. But sometimes, it feels as though the darkness is staring back.

Not all creatures are aggressive. Each creature has its own behavior. Monsters interact with each other. Some hunt each other. If a more dangerous predator appears, the rest may leave the sector. The planet's ecosystem exists independently of the player.

Unknown life forms dwell in the depths of Erebus. Known species: Siren - copies distress signals and human voices. The Reaper is a huge predator that navigates by noise. The Archivist is a sentient being willing to exchange. Shadow Swarm - Destroys equipment and hull. The Observer is a huge eye that causes anomalies. Leviathan is the largest known creature on the planet.

Improvements:

Available upgrades: • reinforced spotlight; • silent engine; • reinforced body; • military sonar; • automatic repair drone; • false radio signal generator; • container for biological samples. Some modules are incompatible with each other.

Research stations:

The operating stations allow: • repair the body; • replenish oxygen; • charge batteries; • buy new modules; • sell samples of organisms; • receive assignments; • save the expedition's progress. Some stations belong to different organizations and have their own interests.

Submarine:

The player controls the research submarine "Nereida". Resources: energy; oxygen; body strength; food supply; charge of searchlights. The submarine can receive new modules and upgrades at research stations.

World:

The planet Erebus is completely covered by a vast ocean. Its depth is unknown. No explorer has ever reached the bottom. At great depths, the familiar laws of physics cease to apply. Compasses go crazy, radio signals become distorted, and echo sounders show impossible objects. Most of the research stations have lost contact. Some are still operational. The main goal of the expeditions is to explore the depths, search for missing crews, and study organisms and ancient structures.
