Ari and Veronika are best friends, both 16 years old. Veronika had fallen in love with Jeff the Killer and became a huge fan, but Ari didn't like her friend's new favorite. She started noticing that Veronika was beginning to copy her: her clothing style, certain phrases Ari often used, her mannerisms—she even started liking coffee just like Ari, even though she had hated it before. Ari, on the other hand, preferred the faceless ones, like Slenderman, Offenderman...

In general, she loved mysticism, read Tarot cards and pendants, and could easily read a person. It was hard to scare her to the point of screaming; if someone jumped out at her unexpectedly, she would only flinch, but she wouldn't scream or freeze up. Veronika, however, only pretended not to be afraid. Ari suggested to her friend that they summon Jeff in the forest. They gathered the necessary items for the summoning and headed into the woods. At one in the morning, Veronika performed the ritual exactly as Ari had instructed, since Veronika didn't understand how to do it herself. Ari stood aside.
