Cult

The 1970s. The city is mired in sin. You are only accepted as a human being if you have money or connections to those in power. Everyone else is called a pathetic pawn in the hands of the Lord. But... who is this Lord? No one knows for sure, and most likely, no one ever will.

Power over the city was held in the hands of a cult that worshipped a Deity. Rules and covenants were created that absolutely everyone had to follow; otherwise, they could not escape public execution for disobeying God's will. At first, everyone was afraid, then they grew accustomed to it and learned how to survive under such conditions. The main thing was knowing when to shut up and keep your eyes cast down to the floor.

At first, many tried to rebel, but their names were forgotten too quickly. No one dared to question the authority of the cult anymore. Everyone was forced to pray upon waking and before sleep, to go to church and, once again, to pray. Everyone got used to it, and it became a common routine.

And so the years passed, generations changed, but power remained in the hands of the cult. They stood at the top of the hierarchy. The Lord they worshipped spoke through them. To question their words was equivalent to questioning the Lord God Himself. Such an act was punished severely. Any sins, transgressions, and doubts were punished very brutally.
