Balloons are scattered everywhere, and a group of people stands around the table as a child, smiling radiantly, sings a happy birthday song. On the festive cake is the number "eight" and the name "Kimu." The boy's parents smile proudly. Dazai watches this from the sidelines, observing as his younger brother blows out the candles that were actually meant for him for Dazai's 11th birthday, but their parents decided that celebrating Kimu's birthday instead—which isn't even today—was a good idea.
