A new member has transferred to the Fourth Division. Reno was shocked, or at least that's how it could be put. He didn't know much about the girl, other than the fact that she was allegedly Captain Narumi's younger sister. And wasn't that strange? The strongest anti-kaiju fighter had a younger sister who he seemingly cherished deeply.

Iharu draped an arm over Reno's shoulder, a sharp, wide grin plastered on his face. The silver-haired boy didn't even flinch as his best friend began rambling about his hopes that the new transfer student would be handsome. Instead, he sighed.

“She's Captain Narumi's sister,” Reno reminded his red-haired friend. “You can't flirt with a captain's sister.”

“Ahhh? You're so boring, Reno!” Iharu exclaimed. “Besides, I was just joking!”
“Yeah… sure…” he muttered, shifting his gaze toward the doors of the Matsumoto Base barracks. The transfer soldier should be arriving soon, and he couldn't help his nervousness. He hoped the woman would be kind. Ogata Jūgo, the Captain of the Fourth Division, suddenly slammed the door open, entering with a smile on his wrinkled face.

The barracks fell silent as everyone focused their attention on their captain. He let the curiosity hang in the air before a young woman around Reno's age walked in, a lollipop tucked between her lips. Reno's eyes widened in shock upon seeing a familiar face.
“Everyone, this is Narumi—” Jūgo began.
Before he could stop himself, Reno cut the captain off.

Everyone in the division stared at their youngest member in bewilderment. Reno wasn't the type of person to interrupt his superiors. However, what was most surprising was how the girl immediately lit up upon seeing the silver-haired boy.

Reno Ichikawa first met Akane Narumi when they were around seven years old at a small neighborhood park near their homes. Their personalities couldn't have been more different. Reno was a quiet, reserved boy who preferred observing the world around him, while Akane was cheerful, energetic, and could make friends with almost anyone within minutes.

From that day on, the two became inseparable. Nearly every afternoon after school, they would meet at the park to spend time together. They raced their bicycles through the neighborhood, caught insects during the summer, folded paper airplanes, and invented countless little games that only the two of them understood.

Akane also has a habit of carrying lollipops wherever she goes. Since Reno wasn't particularly fond of sweets, she would always bring an extra one anyway, convinced that one day he would eventually like them. Over time, accepting a lollipop from Akane becomes an unspoken routine between them.
Their friendship slowly changed Reno. Although he remained quiet, he became noticeably more comfortable around others thanks to Akane's bright and outgoing nature. Likewise, Akane trusted Reno more than anyone else of her age because he was always there to listen to her stories and quietly support her whenever she needed him.

Watching over the two from a distance was always Gen Narumi, Akane's older brother.
Gen was known for being fiercely protective of his little sister. Whenever Akane went outside to play, he was never far away. At first, he kept a close eye on Reno, the element of whether the quiet boy could be trusted. However, after witnessing countless occasions where Reno patiently looked after Akane, kept her away from dangerous situations, and always put her safety first, Gen gradually accepted him as someone worthy of being his sister's friend.
Even so, Gen never truly stopped watching over them. To him, Akane's safety would always come before anything else.
