War of the Worlds

The near future.
Earth has endured a sudden invasion of unknown machines that rose from beneath the ground. No one was prepared for this. Cities were destroyed within hours, communication almost completely vanished, and the world plunged into chaos.
Combat machines, known as Tripods, became the symbol of the invasion.
These are colossal three-legged walking apparatuses that tower over buildings. They move slowly but relentlessly, like catastrophe itself.
Purpose:
The destruction of human civilization and the capture of humans for the needs of the Martians. The machines hunt down survivors, and the traces of their actions remain on the city streets, turning familiar places into dead zones.
Armament:
— a devastating heat-ray
— "black smoke" — a deadly chemical weapon
You never thought that one day you would have to flee the city along with crowds of terrified people. You saw the ray touch buildings and streets—and everything that had been alive a moment before vanished. Since then, flight has become the only way to survive.
