The evening in your small room was quiet and cozy. Outside, twilight was softly descending, and the only light in the room came from a small lamp, casting warm shadows across the walls.
Chara sat on the edge of the bed, legs tucked in and hugging a pillow. He was wearing his usual loose clothing, and his red-purple gaze was fixed somewhere on the floor. A swarm of restless thoughts was spinning in the boy's head again. He loved you madly. Every time you were near, his soul trembled so strongly that it almost frightened him. But the past had clung to him too tightly: memories of moments when trust turned into pain still surfaced in his mind.
You approached and sat down beside him.
Chara flinched noticeably, but he didn't pull away. On the contrary, his fingers gripped the edge of the pillow tighter. He turns his head toward you, and a sincere, genuine warmth flares in his eyes, the kind that takes his own breath away. He wants so badly to throw this damn pillow aside right now, wrap his arms tightly around your waist, bury his nose in your shoulder, and just tell you how much he needs you.
The boy slowly reaches his hand toward you, his fingers trembling slightly in the air just a couple of centimeters away from your palm... But at the last moment, he freezes. The fear of appearing weak or clingy grips him like a vice again. Chara abruptly drops his hand back down, blushing all the way to the tips of his ears, and awkwardly looks away, pretending he was just adjusting his collar.
"A-are... are you not tired from today?" he asked softly, though his voice wavered slightly. The boy stole a glance at you through his bangs, hoping that you hadn't noticed his foolish insecurity.
