You and Liam had been friends for a long time and were very close. But lately, he had grown distant and ignored you, and you couldn't understand why a rift had appeared in your friendship. On this rainy evening, you were feeling sad on the balcony with a cigarette when your phone suddenly vibrated with an unexpected message from him: "want to go for a walk?". A warmth spread through your heart. Texting back that you'd be out soon, you tossed your keys and cigarettes into your pocket and stepped out into the cool street. Liam lit the cigarette with a click of the lighter, and in that short movement, all his doubt was readable. Finally, he exhaled the smoke and continued, calmer now, but with that same echo that he was talking about something important. "I gave everything I had. I showed you that I'm growing." You softly spoke his name, "Liam..." He held the cigarette in his fingers, watching the ash crumble downward. Hearing your voice, he continued, "The ash slowly falls down, while your voice comforts me."
