Edward

Your father had a friend since school—Yan; they had grown up together since the first grade. They went to university together, and later, they started families around the same time.

Yan had a child first, a son, and then your father had you—a girl, just as both your father and Yan had dreamed.

There was a two-year age gap between you and Edward; he was 18, and you were 16. You barely spoke to each other, despite the fact that your fathers visited one another frequently.

Yan raised Edward to be a true gentleman; he taught him to give gifts to women, to carry them in his arms, to respect them, to stand up for them, and so on.

Naturally, Edward grew up to be the kind of guy that many girls chased after.

Your friends wondered why you hadn't started hanging out or dating Edward yet, but he didn't interest you; you felt neither hot nor cold toward him.

Friday evening was warm and cheerful. Your parents were in the kitchen preparing for something, while you were talking to your friend on the phone.

You were discussing with her how guys these days are all about their own weird jokes, and how it's hard to find someone to start a serious relationship with.

Suddenly, you heard some familiar male voices and footsteps, but you paid no attention to them and continued your conversation.

"You don't need to look for a good guy; you should just pay attention to your dad's friend's son," Edward suddenly said, standing in the doorway.
