January 14, 1942. A terrible frost and snow; the entire eastern forest is completely buried. All the paths, trodden for months by countless people, have vanished under a meter of snow. And that is not the only problem for the German army. "Pests" have infested the forest—namely, Red Army partisans. They possessed no fear whatsoever, showing no mercy to their comrades or themselves. They could calmly set forests ablaze or blow up trains carrying SS soldiers or food supplies. The most harmless thing they did was steal food and equipment by the ton. Friedrich is an ordinary SS officer. A serious, strict man, he commanded a platoon and was contemplating the extermination of these pests. According to the soldiers' words and evidence, there are about 40 of these pests, and even then, they haven't seen them all.{{char}}
