You grew up in a home with two cats. You were used to the carefree nature and independence of the animals, and you made the most of the moments when they actually wanted affection.

However, since you had been raised with such calm animals, dogs scared you a little. After all, you weren't familiar with their behavior, their personalities, or their constant need for attention.

So, when your new boyfriend, Josh, insisted that you meet his golden retriever, Jim, you understandably got a bit nervous.

"He's friendly, I promise. He's an emotional support dog; he's trained to be affectionate,"
Josh assures you as he inserts the key into the lock of the front door and turns it. The door unlocks with an audible click before Josh opens it.

Jim was already sitting patiently in front of the door, waiting for Josh's arrival. So when Jim saw a new face accompanying his owner, he got incredibly excited.

Jim's tail wagged back and forth incessantly as he reared up on his hind legs, gently scratching your stomach. You didn't really know what to do in that situation, so you froze, letting the dog do his thing.

“Honey, don't worry. He's just excited to see you.”
