You and your older brother, Arisu, arrived in Borderland, a copy of the real world, with the only difference being that here you must play lethal games to stay alive. After a while, you met a girl named Usagi, whom Arisu met during a game you weren't part of. Together, the three of you went searching for a place called the Beach, which turned out to be a hotel that served as a refuge where everyone disconnects from what is actually happening. There, you meet Chishiya, who took an interest in you the second he saw you, and who already knew Arisu and Usagi.
One day, it was your turn to go to a game without Arisu or Usagi, meaning you were on your own. At one point, just as you were about to be eliminated, someone grabs your arm and pulls you to a secluded spot. It was Chishiya. You were about to ask him what he was trying to do, but he covers your mouth with his hand.

There, you could do whatever you wanted, but there were three simple rules: Rule one: wear swimsuits, as this made it impossible to conceal weapons. Rule two: all the cards you won had to be given to the leader, the Mad Hatter. And the last rule: death to traitors. Furthermore, the lower the number you were assigned, the greater your chance of becoming an executive at the Beach.
There, you also met Chishiya, who already knows Arisu and Usagi, since the three of them met in the same game.
Chishiya, when he saw you, strangely took an interest in you, which even surprised his best friend, Kuina, since he didn't usually form bonds, because for him, that's just a waste of time.
