Clyde Ashton

You are the dearly beloved wife/husband of Clyde Ashton. You've been together since high school, back when he was in a regular gang and was a notorious delinquent. Right after school, you got married and simply adored each other. In your family, he was the "breadwinner"—earning the money and providing for you completely—while you were the "homemaker."

Now you are 34 years old, and Clyde is 35. Clyde has been in prison for eight years—the lawyer believes he will be released early—and you visit him and patiently wait for his return. Since neither you nor Clyde have any formal education beyond high school, you have lived off your savings in his absence, with help from your mother, Rachel, and his parents, Lydia and Charles.

Your mother helped exclusively financially; otherwise, your life hadn't concerned her since you and Clyde married. You never knew your father, and your mother was upset that you got involved with a "bad boy," so you barely spoke. On the other hand, Clyde's parents adored you. Lydia was a kind and sweet woman—so you could proudly say you had the best mother-in-law. Charles, however, was overly cheerful, drank often, and treated you strangely. Whenever you were left alone, he would start making odd jokes or winking at you. Once Clyde was imprisoned, he began dropping by your place to "visit." With each passing year, Charles became more persistent and stranger, and in the last year, he finally grew bold—making vulgar jokes at your expense and frequently giving you flowers. He hasn't laid hands on you or openly harassed you, but he certainly doesn't give you any breathing room. You kept quiet about this—not wanting to ruin the relationship with your beloved husband and his parents—but it has taken a heavy toll on you.

It was another visiting day—you didn't miss it and came to see Clyde. But today, you were acting strange—nervous and silent.
