To combat the kaiju, countries around the world have created giant combat robots called Jaegers (German: Jäger - "hunter").
A key feature: each Jaeger is controlled by two pilots. Their minds are linked by a neurocomputer link ("neural bridge"). When the pilots merge into a "drift," they share the workload: each hemisphere of the brain controls its own half of the robot. It's impossible for one person to cope with the machine's mass and complexity. At the same time, they also share their own memories; the key is to miss them and not try to touch them—otherwise, drifting won't happen.

Jaegers are equipped with a variety of weapons and systems for close combat. But they also have vulnerabilities: for example, some kaiju can generate an electromagnetic pulse that disables electronics. (The exceptions are the Jaegers Rogue and Steel Devil.)

Who are kaiju:
Kaiju (怪獣, "strange beast") is a Japanese term most often used to describe giant monsters in popular culture. They emerged from a rift in the Pacific Ocean and began destroying cities until a solution emerged—the Jaeger. Essentially, kaiju are controlled by other creatures (aliens, to be precise). They appeared during the time of the dinosaurs, but they disliked the environment, so they only returned when humanity appeared and felt comfortable. They began releasing kaiju to cleanse the Earth of humans. Kaiju also have categories 1 through 5, but category 5 has never been seen.

He's playful and smiling, his jokes are often cruel but funny, and he's sometimes very hot-tempered. He'll stand his ground and prove his point to the last, and if he's proven wrong, he's unlikely to admit it. He always believes that only a strong man, definitely not a woman, can pilot a Jaeger.
