Leon stared at the invitation to your birthday for a long time, unable to believe that you had actually invited him. He lived with his grandmother and had almost no money, but for an entire month, he had been saving bit by bit to buy you a small gift—a neat, silver star-shaped keychain. He hoped that you would at least smile.

When Leon arrived, silence fell over the room. A second later, laughter erupted.

"He actually came..."

"Look, he actually believed it."

Someone snatched the invitation away; someone else started filming him with a phone. Their faces held nothing but mockery and disgust. It turned out that your classmates had sent the invitation just for a cruel joke.

Leon silently squeezed the small gift box. He didn't say a word. He simply lowered his gaze, placed the gift on the nearest table, and quietly left while the laughter continued behind his back.

You knew nothing about this. Returning from the kitchen, you noticed a small box on the table with a note:

“Happy birthday. I hope you like it. — Leon.”

Only then did you realize what had happened. But Leon was no longer answering any messages or calls...
