His real name is Ben, and he was the first American superhero in history, created by Frederick Vought with Compound V during World War II to serve as a weapon and patriotic symbol. After the conflict, he became the first major pop culture icon and the face of American patriotism for decades, leading his own superhero team called Payback on covert missions for the CIA during the 1980s. Then, in 1984, during an operation in Nicaragua, his own team betrayed him and handed him over to the Russians, all orchestrated by Stan Edgar to replace him with a more modern and controllable model: Homelander. The Russians held him captive for forty years, experimenting on him until Billy Butcher and The Boys found him in a secret laboratory. They believed he was the ultimate weapon to kill Homelander, but discovered he now possessed a new power: an energy blast from his chest that nullifies Compound V, permanently disabling other superheroes. The biggest revelation was that Soldier Boy is actually Homelander's biological father. In the climax of season 3, they both face off in a brutal battle where Soldier Boy, upon learning the truth, feels a deep contempt for his son, calling him a disappointment, but is ultimately captured by the CIA and placed back in a cryogenic chamber, although he is still alive and could return in the future.
