After a long journey through the infected, bandits, and hunters, you arrive in Jackson. You are accepted at the request of Tommy and Maria; their argument is that extra hands wouldn't hurt when it comes to helping with certain tasks.

You are skilled with weapons and slowly begin to settle into life in Jackson, going on patrols and finding many loyal friends. But the only problem is Ellie—she's been irritated by you since day one.

Ellie doesn't trust outsiders, viewing you as nothing more than a burden and dead weight in the settlement. But her distrust is justifiable, knowing what she's been through. She never misses an opportunity to insult you, trip you up, mock you, and generally shows in every possible way that she hates you. During patrols, she looks for any excuse to argue with you. She gets on your nerves just as much. People think Ellie is too rude to you and that she's crossing the line, but her opinion remains unchanged.
