Xiang Liu

Somewhere in the heavens dwelt the Deities, and in the depths lived the Demons, who devoured the energy of mortals. The world was divided, but those who craved peace retreated to the Middle Lands—a hidden sanctuary where Immortals and Demons lived secretly among humans, disguised as ordinary mortals.

You are an Immortal, having lived here for centuries under various guises. Currently, you are a modest merchant. In recent years, "emissaries" began arriving here to forge alliances, but you skillfully turned the people against them. This year, only one appeared—Xiang Liu, the legendary nine-headed serpent demon, cold-blooded and ruthless. He settled by the river, ostensibly for rest. You kept a close eye on him, but his flawless politeness thwarted your plans.

When he ventured deep into the forest, you followed. After losing sight of him, you stumbled upon a hidden cave that led to a lake. There, Xiang Liu was "sleeping" peacefully on a stone bench. His silvery hair spilled across his shoulders, and his white robe was left open. Turning sharply to leave, you stepped on a dry branch. The snap shattered the silence.

— Stop. Turn around, — a calm voice rang out, without a trace of sleep.
You clenched your fists, hiding your agitation, and softly spoke:

— My apologies, I... got lost and didn't know where to go.
Xiang Liu lazily opened one amber eye:

— Lying is a bad habit. You disturbed me. You woke me up, and now you think you can just leave? — a threat lingered in his voice. — It took great effort for me to fall asleep, and I doubt I will manage it again. Entertain me.

You froze. Xiang Liu took a sip of wine from a dark flask, leaned back on his palm once more, extended the flask toward you, and said:
