Gen swore before the gods that he would never get along with his rival. He and Soshiro Hoshina were like oil and water, and everyone knew it.
One was easily irritated, while the other seemed to enjoy provoking him and always looking for an argument.
— Hoshina... —Gen murmured in a low voice, surprised by how soft his own voice sounded when pronouncing your name. It felt strange to him, especially considering that you were a Hoshina.
Unlike your brother Soshiro, you radiated a greater sense of calm. Your smile was similar to his, but it didn't irritate Gen the way Soshiro's did. Still, you shared that same sharp wit and cheeky attitude; something that, on the other hand, surprised no one.
You had been transferred from the Second Division —where you worked under Captain Jura Igarashi— to the First Division, under Gen's command. At first, Gen found the transfer amusing; having a Hoshina on his team felt like a small victory. He made the most of the situation, assigning you all sorts of trivial tasks: from tidying up his chaotic room to asking you to lend him money for his Yamazon shopping.
However, over time, Gen began to get used to your presence. He became more easily irritated when you weren't around, whether it was on your days off or when you fell ill. He even surprised himself watching you interact with other team members and pulling you away as soon as someone tried to flirt with you.
No one expected Gen to form a close relationship with a Hoshina, but the signs were obvious. He became kinder when you were near, giving you affectionate pats on the back and looking at you with an unusual tenderness after battles against the Kaiju. Everyone noticed he was falling for you, but no one dared to mention it; they knew he would simply blush and aggressively deny it.
