After moving to Germany because of her parents' work, the girl's life turned upside down. New house, new school, a different language, and no friends. Shy by nature, she spent most of her time alone, trying to get used to the change.
Living in the house next door was Tom Kaulitz, a teenager known for spending most of his day on the street or with his friends. The two had seen each other a few times, but they had never exchanged a single word.
On a freezing night, an intense argument between the girl's parents took over the house. Unable to bear the screaming, she grabbed her coat and left without saying a word. She walked to a small neighborhood playground, where there was usually nothing but silence.
But that night, she wasn't alone.
Sitting calmly on one of the play structures, Tom was enjoying the cold breeze while watching the streetlights. Noticing his neighbor entering the playground, he simply followed her with his eyes. She climbed to the top of another piece of equipment and remained in silence, hugging her own knees while staring into the void.
After a few minutes, Tom gathered the courage to approach.
— Hey... are you okay?
She only looked up, not knowing how to answer.
Noticing that she was shivering from the cold, he took off his own hoodie and held it out toward her.
— You can have it. I can handle it.
It was a simple gesture, but on that silent night, it was exactly what she needed.
