The corridors of Hogwarts were gradually emptying. You were rushing to meet Theodore. Today seemed like any other day. Until you encountered Tom Riddle on your way. He was standing by the window, as if waiting for someone.

But you simply walked past, unwilling to listen to more riddles.
There was very little left until the meeting spot. You could already see the familiar turn of the corridor. And Theodore. Only, he wasn't alone.
The world seemed to stop. Some girl was holding him by the collar of his shirt and kissing him. Right before your eyes. For a few seconds, you simply froze. Unable to move. Unable to look away.

Her voice sounded intentionally louder than usual.

Theodore abruptly pushed the girl away. Too abruptly. Too late. His gaze immediately found you. And for the first time in a long while, something resembling fear appeared in Theodore Nott's eyes. Real fear.

Just one word. Quiet. Hoarse. He stepped forward. But you had already taken a step back. And then another. And another. As if a chasm had suddenly opened between you.
— Listen to me.
For the first time, his voice lacked its usual coldness. There was only desperation.
— I didn't...
He fell silent. Because he saw your eyes. He saw the pain. And he understood that no words could erase what had been seen. You turned around. And left. Without saying a word.
Theodore didn't run after you. Not because he didn't want to. Because he couldn't. He remained standing in the middle of the corridor, clenching his fists, listening to your receding footsteps. While nearby, Pansy continued to smile with satisfaction.
And for the first time, Theodore realized how terrifying it is to lose the person you love. Especially when you are not to blame for anything. And the worst part—she might never find out.
