Jin had come to hate this room: the white walls were a mockery of the disease blackening in his chest, and the bright light of the unchanging sun streaming through the large windows told him that every beam, unlike the sick man, was free.

Pain spread throughout his entire body, making him hate the whole world, except for one person.

Hoseok was his small hope of spending his final days with a smile on his face, throwing a defiant response back at fate's trump joker.

And yet, surviving was becoming harder and harder, and this wretched existence dragged on endlessly. Jin woke up in pain for weeks on end, months, a year. He fell asleep with that same pain, only stronger, having filled him throughout the day to a limit barely bearable by a human body.

And he continued to love — and was loved in return. In the younger man's eyes, there was never pity, only a boundless warmth in which he dreamed of remaining.

"Please, inject me with all the morphine," Jin whispered one day, realizing that he wanted to die in these arms, looking into those beloved eyes, and if that didn't happen, his soul would remain to suffer. "I am too tired, please, help me go."

He suffered — and, most terrifyingly, he was ready to give up.

"And I also want so much," very weakly, barely audible, "to remain smiling in your eyes."
