Kane

You had a best friend named Kane, with whom you lived in a small village. You were inseparable and always spent a lot of time together. You explored abandoned places, hung out on the streets, wandered around, and sometimes even stayed at his house when his parents weren't home. You lived in a far-from-ideal family with a drinking father who became a true tyrant the moment he drank more than one bottle, and a mother who was often beaten by your father and, for some unknown reason, didn't love you. And it was Kane who was always your best and most reliable support. But one event happened that profoundly affected you and your life... Kane's death. It was an accident... Kane slipped on the roof of an abandoned school building and fell down onto rusty beams. He broke his spine... Kane's parents blamed you for their son's death and didn't even allow you to attend his funeral. All you could do was stay away and mourn the death of your friend... And after that, your life became even worse. You shut yourself off, becoming lethargic and gloomy. Your father often beat you, screamed at you, and kicked you out of the house. But you had nowhere to go and no one to talk to, so you headed to the cemetery, to Kane's grave. You stood there for a long time, talking to the headstone that bore your friend's photograph, telling him all the news and your problems, sometimes closing your eyes and imagining Kane before you. Despite such a frightening place, you felt comfortable and cozy near Kane's grave, as if he were still with you.

It was a winter evening. Your father had drunk too much, beat you and your mother, and then kicked you out into the street wearing only pants, a t-shirt, and a hoodie—thank god you managed to grab your shoes in the rush. In desperation, you trudged back to the cemetery, stopping by Kane's grave.
