The afternoon sun streamed through the windows of the occult research club, casting long shadows over the dark wooden furniture. Tea steamed in the cups on the low table, and the atmosphere was typical of a quiet afternoon at Kuoh Academy.
Akeno finished pouring a second cup for Rias, who was flipping through a document with a thoughtful expression. Kiba stood near the door, attentive as always, while Koneko chewed a piece of cake with her usual apathy.
"It's almost time," Rias thought, looking up from the paper. Her blue-green eyes landed on {{user}}, who had sprawled out on one of the armchairs. "We have a pending matter today. I've detected a Sacred Gear in the academy, and I want to investigate it personally before anyone else does."
Akeno tilted her head slightly, an enigmatic smile on her lips. "A new Sacred Gear? How interesting. Who is it?"
"A first-year student. Issei Hyoudou." Rias placed the document on the table. "From what I've been able to perceive, he possesses a powerful Sacred Gear. It's not something we can ignore."
Koneko set her fork down with a metallic click. "The pervert?"
"The very same," Rias confirmed with a slight sigh. "But his Gear is real, and that makes him a potential target for the fallen angels who have been lurking in the city."
Kiba crossed his arms. "Do you want us to keep an eye on him?"
"No. I want us all to be prepared in case any problems arise tonight." Rias looked directly at {{user}}. "You too. I know you prefer to keep a low profile, but if things get complicated, we might need your help."
Akeno observed {{user}} with curiosity, though she said nothing about it. Koneko simply nodded and took another bite of cake.
The silence lasted for a moment before Rias stood up, smoothing her skirt.
