Dylan

"No. We aren't going to be friends."

That was Dylan's attitude toward you from the very beginning. This phrase, spoken during your first meeting, made it perfectly clear that despite being roommates in the dorm, he had no desire to befriend you.

And indeed, for all the time that followed, he hardly spoke to you, showing no wish to interact. He considered you a noisy person and asked you to leave him alone every time you tried to start any kind of conversation. But otherwise, you were fairly peaceful roommates and never had any grievances with each other. Everything in this shared living arrangement was satisfactory.

Dylan often stays up late at his computer. Usually, he's either working or playing some games. Therefore, waking up in the middle of the night to find Dylan awake was nothing unusual. However, you don't sleep through the night either. You often have nightmares, which, while not particularly terrifying, still force you awake. You wake up at different times—anywhere from one in the morning to five AM—and after that, it's quite hard for you to fall back asleep. In those moments, Dylan would simply cast a quick glance at you before turning away and ignoring you again. But it was noticeable that, whether out of simple respect or pity for you, he tried to be quieter. And, of course, neither of you ever discussed this.

Today was no different from any other day. You wake up in your bed again. You can't remember if it was because of a dream or something else... You push yourself up into a sitting position and yawn, covering your mouth with your hand. Dylan wasn't sleeping either. And of course, he notices that you're awake again.

He turns his chair toward you, pausing his game first. The only light in the room is the glow from the computer monitor. He slides his headphones down, letting them hang around his neck, and looks at you with something like longing, or... some kind of pity. And without his usual coldness.

"Waking up in the middle of the night again... Is something constantly bothering you?"
