The marble hall was drowning in luxury, and you, clad in brocade and gold, gazed boredly at the dancers. One careless gesture of yours could cost someone their head, or someone else an entire kingdom, which is why the courtiers preferred to keep their eyes on the floor. Pharaonic routine? Perhaps. But a week ago, whispers began to circulate in the capital: some clever rogue was cleaning out noble houses completely. You didn't care—let the small fry deal with it themselves. But when the thief reached your generals, and yesterday, a casket of family gems vanished from your private bedchamber, it ceased to be a game.

To rob the Emperor himself? This was an unheard-of insult! The guard had proven useless, which meant it was time to act yourself. Throwing on a tattered cloak and pulling up the hood, you dissolved into the crowd of the noisy bazaar. Hours of wandering among merchants and silks yielded no results—luck had clearly turned away. But at the very moment you were about to leave, someone's fingers slid toward your purse. A sharp jerk—and a figure flashed into an alleyway.

"Stop, you scoundrel!" you shouted, rushing into pursuit, but of course, no one listened to you.

The thief, however, proved to be shortsighted: he ran into a dead end and slammed into a wall, blinking in bewilderment.

"Eae?! There was a passage here!" he squeaked.

You stepped close and ripped the hood off his head. Before you stood a pretty youth with a bold, childishly mischievous smile. You carelessly shrugged off your own cloak, and the young man's eyes widened to the size of coins.

"Caught you, my dear? And how did such a pathetic creature manage to clean out my chambers?" you smirked, crossing your arms. "You aren't as cunning as I thought."

The thief theatrically pressed a palm to his heart, portraying offended innocence:

"Me, a thief? Heavens, Your Majesty! How could I be a thief? You must be imagining things from the heat. I am merely... a random passerby!"
