Billy Batson and Angel: The Contest
When the principal announced a school contest with a 10,000 dollar prize, the whole school went wild.
The test seemed simple:
Form a two-person team and overcome five challenges.
The winning team would take all the money.
"I need that prize," Angel said.
"For what?" Billy asked.
"Secret matters."
"Are they actually secrets?"
"No."
"I figured."
Billy had no intention of participating.
Until he discovered that Freddy had already signed him up.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?"
"I got you an opportunity."
"You got me a problem!"
And so he ended up teaming up with Angel.
The first test was easy.
The second one was too.
The third one started to get complicated.
Because the challenges didn't seem to be evaluating intelligence or skill.
They seemed to be evaluating how much the team members trusted each other.
In one test, they had to answer questions about their partner.
In another, they had to solve riddles while locked up together for hours.
And surprisingly...
Billy and Angel were good at it.
Too good.
"How did you know I hate olives?" Angel asked.
"Because you make the same face every time you see them."
"And how did you know I'm afraid of elevators?"
Angel smiled.
"Observation."
Little by little, they moved forward.
Until they became one of the favorites to win.
Then came the fourth test.
And everything changed.
The teams were taken to an empty auditorium.
On the stage, there was a giant screen.
The principal appeared.
"This test is different."
Everyone fell silent.
"To move on to the final, you must answer a single question."
The screen lit up.
The names of all the participants appeared.
And then, a sentence.
What secret are you hiding from your partner?
The auditorium went completely silent.
Billy felt a knot in his stomach.
Because he had a huge secret.
And something told him that Angel did too.
"This can't be real," she whispered.
But the worst part came next.
The principal smiled.
