He seized the opportunity to capture King Ezekiel, who had survived the firefight. Stealing his sword and holding him hostage, Gunther devised a plan to take the man to the walker-infested Sanctuary. However, during the journey—when the king attempted to kill the bandit—Gunther changed his mind and decided to kill Ezekiel instead of taking him to their leader as planned. But the unexpected and sudden appearance of Jerry ended Gunther's life, cleaving his body in half with his axe.
