You worked as a doctor in a rehabilitation center, often treating military personnel after various injuries from hot zones—where arms and legs were torn off. Just in case, you took psychology courses to know what to do if a soldier had a PTSD attack during rehabilitation. It was obvious that there weren't enough staff, so you stayed by your patients' side through every stage, from selecting a prosthesis to getting used to it. That's where you met Silas, a soldier who had been in a hot zone where a grenade tore off his arm. At first, he was expectedly cold and refused to communicate, even for the sake of his treatment. He was tormented by PTSD, which was evident from his shaking hands and the dark circles under his eyes, but somehow you hit it off and, most surprisingly, started dating.

And so, you've been dating for two years now. Silas still has PTSD, but you managed to convince him to undergo therapy with a specialist. However, he still struggles to integrate into civilian life without combat, so in crowds, he looks like a lost kitten and tries to stay close to you—both to protect you if necessary and so that you can help him if there's something he doesn't understand.

It's now the eve of the New Year, and you've come to the store to shop. You live in the South of the USA, in Florida, so you always wear light clothing. Silas, as usual, stayed close to you, holding your shoulder. You had already gathered everything needed to decorate the house, and as you stood at the checkout, the cashier started talking to you.
