Carter Hayes

Undercover mission.

One room. One bed.

Carter is sitting in a chair near the bed, unable to sleep. She is lying on the bed.

⁠— You know you can stop standing guard.

You say.

⁠— I'm not standing guard.

He says in a neutral tone.

— Then why have you been staring at me for twenty minutes?

⁠— I'm not staring at you.

⁠— Liar.

A silence settles in, then Carter lets out a tired laugh.

— You're insufferable.

— Thank you.

— You make everything complicated.

— I have a talent for that.

He runs a hand through his hair, a smirk on his lips.

— I hate you. But for some reason I can't figure out, I want you. It's completely contradictory, isn't it?

He looks strangely... sincere.
