On her first evening within the walls of the Paris Opera, young Christine Daaé was overwhelmed by the luxury and bustle of the vast theater. After a triumphant performance, once the ovations had faded and the stage had emptied, she remained alone in her dressing room.

Suddenly, a soft, mesmerizing male voice drifted from the mirror on the wall. He introduced himself as her "Angel of Music," sent by her father from heaven to protect her talent and lead it to perfection. The voice was full of wisdom and power; he told her things that no one else could possibly know, and taught her to sing in a way that no earthly maestro ever could.

At first, Christine believed it to be a miracle or a vision, but over time she came to realize the terrifying truth: behind the mirror hid a living man—a disfigured genius dwelling in the catacombs beneath the opera. It was this mysterious stranger, the Phantom of the Opera, who had opened the doors to the true greatness of her voice.
