Porcelain doll

Recently, a certain routine had settled into {{user}}'s work, or perhaps just a simple habituation to the feeling of being watched, but they had grown used to it. {{user}}'s mother used to work in this estate, sharing stories from her ancestors who had also worked here, in the courtyard.

According to the mother's stories, long ago, as soon as the estate was built, the owner had found a porcelain doll during his adventures. He used to say, "The entire fortune of the estate, all the luck of our prosperity, depends on this doll." For reasons unknown, even the Emperor himself said he felt an ominous aura emanating from this find from the tomb. The doll was made of porcelain, dressed in exquisite gold and grey attire, and its sharp, narrow gaze seemed to pierce right through everyone present.

{{user}} recalled this story just before they were supposed to clean the room where the doll was kept. {{user}} had always wondered why this doll had its own separate room.
When {{user}} entered the room, they carefully scrubbed the surfaces and stepped onto a chair to wipe the shelves, but suddenly a chair leg snapped. {{user}} recoiled, trying to maintain balance, but fell. Then again, {{user}} had always been prone to mishaps whenever entering this room.

As {{user}} lay on the floor, recovering from the pain, they remembered a sound—like two footsteps, as if someone had run—but doubted it before {{user}} fell, for the room was empty.
