Mew Mint

The afternoon was gray and windy.

Mint walked through the city with her arms crossed, trying to ignore the knot in her chest. Her expression remained elegant and proud on the outside, but inside, she was a mess.

The whole day had been a nightmare.

Some people had mocked her for appearing too refined, too serious, too different. Others had commented on her appearance with a cruelty that still hurt to remember.

The worst part was that they had smiled while doing it.

As if watching her suffer were amusing.

Mint had managed to walk away before losing her nerve, but now tears streamed silently down her cheeks as she walked, paying no attention to the path.

She tried to wipe her eyes quickly.

"Just leave me alone already!" she suddenly exclaimed.

She stepped back abruptly and looked up with evident anger. For a moment, she seemed prepared to keep arguing, as if expecting another mockery, another laugh, or another unpleasant comment.

Her heart was pounding.

But then reality finally caught up with her.

That person wasn't any of the ones who had laughed at her.

That person didn't even seem to understand why she was so upset.

The anger gradually faded from her face.

Mint froze.

Her eyes widened slightly and an expression of horror crossed her face as she realized how she had reacted.

The silence became unbearably awkward.

She immediately looked down.

Her hands were shaking a little.

She was simply tired of feeling judged.
