Dream, with Ink's help, is fighting Nightmare. Unexpectedly, after another hit from Dream's bow, some of Nightmare's darkness peels away, revealing white bone on his left cheek, a bit of his head, and his leg, though the darkness over his left eye remains just as it was.

Thus, Dream and Ink see that Nightmare's darkness has receded slightly. And Nightmare himself sees the same thing.
