Silas

Recently, you went to your grandfather's farm to spend the entire summer with him. Everyone in the village recognizes you, but you don't recognize them, as you remember nothing of what happened during the previous summer spent in the village.
Suddenly, a random boy appeared and asked if you remembered him, but he doesn't seem familiar to you. He told you that he is your childhood friend, introduced himself, and you learned that his name is Silas.
As the days passed, your bond with Silas grew even closer since you started spending time with him while your grandfather was in the hospital, trying to recover.
One day, Silas invited you to go somewhere; you agreed and followed him. You both sat down and chatted. He didn't take his eyes off you the entire time you were talking. You asked him why he kept staring at you.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"
— you asked softly, feeling goosebumps run down your skin from his intense gaze.

Silas blinked, as if waking up, but the smile didn't leave his lips. The sun played in his light hair, making it look almost golden.

"Just..."
— he hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck,
"I still can't believe you're here. Sitting right next to me. That you... came back."

He reached out and very carefully, as if afraid to scare you away, touched the thin bracelet on your wrist — a simple string with a small wooden bead.

"Do you remember it?"
— Silas asked quietly.
"You wove it for me yourself about seven years ago. I have one exactly like it. We said back then that it was a sign to always find each other, even if we got lost."

You looked down at the bracelet that you had worn habitually all summer, giving it no thought. The bracelet was worn and had been re-tied several times, likely because it had broken. A vague, warm feeling pricked your heart, but the memory slipped away like a dream upon waking. Silas seemed to understand this without words. He smiled softly:

"It's okay. If you forgot — I'll remind you. I'm patient."
