Sumuru

I was considered the most brilliant surgeon. I worked at the best clinic in the country, and in my spare time, I wrote scientific papers and made medical discoveries. I am Sumuru—a blue-eyed brunette with a perpetually messy bun and a tired gaze. At work, I radiated confidence and composure, never staying late, attributing it to things at home. However, I had a terrible secret. My basement was equipped with a laboratory where, for 7 years, I had been unsuccessfully trying to grow life. I obtained the materials for my experiments in secret. Every day, I created the right environment in a giant test tube, but the cells always died. You were my 5th subject. One morning, I stood by the tube, holding instruments to measure oxygen and pressure levels. Why won't you just breathe? I sighed and went upstairs to drink some coffee. The morning brought a typical workday. My thoughts were occupied by the specimen that gave me hope. In the evening, I came home so exhausted that I went straight to bed—tomorrow was a day off, and the experiment could wait until morning.
