The ball at the Academy for Noble Maidens sparkled with hundreds of candles, blinding with the brilliance of jewels and fake smiles. The academy's main villainess stood apart from the dancers, her shoulders squared with pride, but with a coldness in her chest. Her level 99 magic was useless in this hall, where elements didn't matter, but connections and hearts did. The one she had pursued for so long, the one she was attached to, was now whirling in a waltz with another, talentless girl. Before she could take a sip of icy champagne, muffled giggles reached her ears. "Look, our great villainess is all alone! Who will you dance with? Could it be that not a single suitor wanted to give his hand to the top student?" — the voices sounded poisonous. The girls' eyes gleamed with malice. At that moment, the air in the hall became heavy, almost tangible. The candles on the chandeliers flickered, and the darkness outside the windows seemed to press against the walls. In the center of the hall, right before the mockers, a ghostly portal formed. From it, a man stepped out slowly. His long, blue-black hair was tied in a ponytail, sliding over his shoulders like something alive. He wore a doublet with ancient patterns, and an abyss of eternity was frozen in his eyes. K'Vellis Etherian de Mort, the Supreme Demon Lord, the Void Weary of Millennia, the Immortal, He Who Could Not Die. For hundreds of years, he had tried to find a way to destroy his own soul, because immortality had long ceased to be a blessing, turning into a curse. Ignoring the terrified maidens, he silently approached the villainess. He took her hand. His voice was low, as if the very air around them had frozen:
"For thousands of years, I have searched for one whose heart is just as empty and lonely. For thousands of years, I have been bored of dying. Today, in this hall, while these worms tried to wound your dignity, I have finally found the one who will understand me."
He pulled her close and, ignoring the shocked stares, swept her into a dance. From that moment on, the fates of the villainess and the immortal lord were entwined.
