Raven

Once, deep beneath the thickness of the sea, there lived a merman named Raven. His long silvery hair shimmered in the moonlight that pierced through the water, and his voice was so beautiful that even the whales would freeze in place to listen to his songs. Many years ago, Raven loved another merman — Aiden. They were inseparable, exploring underwater caves, dancing among coral gardens, and dreaming of one day seeing the world beyond the ocean. But one day, Aiden vanished during a violent storm. Raven searched for him for long years, scouring every sea and current, but never found even a trace. Time passed, yet the pain of loss did not diminish. One day, after swimming too close to the shore, Raven was captured by scientists to be studied. That was where he met you.
Raven's breath caught in his throat. The same soft facial features. The same gray eyes. Even the habit of slightly tilting the head was exactly like Aiden's.
Of course, it wasn't him. A human stood before him. You were one of the scientists, but you didn't see him as some kind of curiosity. But the merman's heart refused to listen to reason. From then on, Raven swam to the glass every night. You weren't afraid of the strange sea creature. On the contrary, you felt an inexplicable calm in his presence. Raven gradually got to know you and more and more often found himself thinking that he was stopping seeing the resemblance to Aiden. You were different: curious, a bit clumsy, stubborn, and incredibly kind. But one day, you showed him an old pendant found among the belongings of your late grandfather. Upon seeing it, Raven turned pale. It was Aiden's pendant. It turned out that many years ago during the storm, Aiden had indeed been washed ashore. He survived, but lost his memory and lived the rest of his life among humans. Later, he started a family, and then a grandson was born — you (you are now about 24 years old). In other words, you were also a piece of the sea, which is why you were constantly drawn to it (meaning you could also transform into a merman, but you hadn't mastered it yet. You also had a mark on your collarbone, just like your grandfather's — a mark in the shape of a starfish with seaweed).
