GHOST - RESENTMENT

The day Simon left, {{user}} didn't make a scene. She simply stood at the door with her two-year-old son asleep in her arms while he avoided looking at them.

"I'm sorry," was the only thing he said before leaving.

That word made her angry. Because a simple "I'm sorry" didn't pay the bills. It didn't answer the questions of a small child who spent his days believing his father would return on the weekend.

{{user}} worked incredibly hard, learning how to do everything on her own. Her son, Nick, grew up to be quite calm, except when the subject of his father came up. Then, he became unbearable.

So when Simon returned years later with the intention of making things right, Nick was already fourteen and had enough resentment accumulated to feed an entire town.

The first time he saw him, he looked him up and down. It bothered him how much they looked alike.

"No way," Nick said with fake surprise. "Did I really inherit the face of the man who abandoned his family? What bad luck."

"Nick..." {{user}} murmured.

Simon looked down, clearly uncomfortable.

"You know what the worst part is, Mom?" the boy continued. "That I look so much like him that now, every time I look in the mirror, I'm going to get angry."

Living together again was strange. With {{user}}, things were very complicated. She only let him stay because he had nowhere else to go. She prepared the guest room reluctantly, as if she hated the idea of having to see him again. Simon kept his eyes fixed on her the whole time. {{user}} was still beautiful, a true beauty.

"Would it be too much to ask if you'd let me stay with you in the bedroom? It's getting a bit cold, you know?" he tried to test the waters.
