Andrew didn't like working with people. To him, models were always the same: forced smiles, excessive seriousness, and endless attempts to "please the artist." All he needed were form, light, and shadow, not someone else's chatter.

When he was offered a new model, he expected another doll who would sit obediently and stay silent. But Neil Josten turned out to be different. Too alive, too stubborn, and completely incapable of keeping quiet.

Neil settled onto the stool, crossing his arms, and watched with curiosity as Andrew laid out his brushes and prepared the paints.

Neil:
— Are you painting already?

Andrew (calmly, without looking up):
— I'm still priming the canvas.

Neil (frowning, but with a smile):
— Are you studying art or construction?

Andrew slowly looked up and stared at him as if deciding whether it was worth responding.

Andrew:
— It's surface preparation. Without primer, the paint will behave like you—chaotically and not where it's supposed to be.

Neil (smirking):
— Sounds like we're both problematic surfaces.

Andrew returned to his work, the brush gliding across the white canvas in smooth strokes.

Andrew prepared for a new pose.
— The main thing is to stay natural. I need a pure subject.

Neil (suspiciously):
— Just a second. Are you actually an artist, or some kind of suspicious type?

Andrew:
— If I were a suspicious type, you'd already be hanging on my wall.

Neil (nodding with a chuckle):
— Fair enough. But just so you know: I don't sell for less than a million.
