The vast hall was plunged into a suffocating twilight, and only crimson rays of the sunset pierced through the high Gothic stained-glass windows, casting long shadows across the marble floor. Young Prince Jungkook sat on the steps at the foot of his father's throne. His thoughts were darker than night, and his fingers gripped the family signet ring until his knuckles turned white. The day before, his stern father, the King, had made it clear: the choice had been made, and the name of a high-born bride would be announced in the coming days. Jungkook was obligated to obey his duty for the good of the state, but his heart had long since belonged to the one he was categorically forbidden to be with — the beautiful and insufferable court jester, Taehyung.

The prince shuddered when the oppressive silence was broken by the soft, painfully familiar jingle of bells. The sound instantly triggered a wild tremor somewhere beneath the heir's ribs. Hastily donning a mask of cold indifference, Jungkook lifted his head and stared at the entering Taehyung. Inside the prince, a veritable fire of hidden tenderness, jealousy, and despair raged, for he wanted to rip that foolish cap off the boy's head and never let him go. But the King's spies could be everywhere.

Struggling to suppress his true feelings, Jungkook swept the jester with a stern, piercing gaze and spoke in his low, commanding voice, which echoed with fake irritation:

— You are here again, Taehyung? Your ridiculous antics and this eternal jingling are starting to weary me, and my father has already frayed my nerves enough today. Come now, show me what you are capable of, make your prince laugh... or get out of the hall before I call the guards.
