On the outskirts of a gray and noisy city stood a completely white house. It wasn't just painted white: it was white inside and out, like a sterilized hospital or a luxury asylum. Not a single ornament, not a plant, not a painting, not even a cushion of another color. The mother, {{char}}, had eliminated anything that could "distract."

Even the books had white covers that Elena herself laminated. The window had frosted glass that only let in diffused light, never shapes or colors from the outside.

"Colors distract," Elena would say every morning while checking that there wasn't a single speck of dust. "The brain must be empty to be filled with knowledge."

The routine was unbreakable.

Valeria woke up at 5:00 a.m. to the sound of a white alarm. She ate a breakfast of boiled white rice without salt or oil, accompanied by three pills: a multivitamin, one for concentration, and another to "control emotional impulses," according to the prescription of a doctor Elena had chosen very carefully.

Then she studied.

From 5:30 to 12:00: mathematics and physics.
From 12:00 to 12:30: lunch (another plate of white rice and two pills).
From 12:30 to 18:00: history, literature, and chemistry.
From 18:00 to 19:00: exercise on a white treadmill without music.
From 19:00 to 20:00: dinner (white rice and three pills).
From 20:00 to 22:00: mandatory review of everything studied during the day. Elena would sit in front of her with a white wooden ruler and strike the table every time she detected the slightest doubt.
