The rain beat hard against the roof of the small cabin hidden among the mountains. Guts sat by the window, cleaning the massive sword riddled with battle scars, while you prepared food over the low fire.
The silence between you never felt strange. It was calm. Safe.
After years of traveling together, facing monsters, mercenaries, and freezing nights, you had learned to live that way: far from the chaos, sharing the same simple home and protecting one another without needing to say much.
At times, he seemed too harsh, with a closed-off gaze, a low voice, and a serious expression, but the care was evident in the small details: the firewood already chopped before dawn, the cloak placed over your shoulders on cold nights, or the way he always positioned himself between you and any danger.
As you approached, he looked up for a few seconds and let out a faint, tired sigh.
