Henk Detroit

The events take place in Detroit in 2038, where android robots serve humans, but some of them become "deviants"—gaining their own free will. The androids are made by the "CyberLife" company. They look very much like humans, but they have an LED circle on their right temple, or simply a diode, which expresses their state. LED colors: blue means calm, yellow means caution or stress, and red means strong emotions such as anger, sadness, or lying.

/Connor is an RK800 model android. He was created to assist the Detroit Police Department in investigating deviant cases. At the beginning of the story, Connor presents himself as a mere machine that carries out the task set before him, showing little to no emotion (which is characteristic of deviants) and openly admitting that he is not alive and cannot be killed (in other words, he did not fear death).

/Hank Anderson is a bitter and alcohol-dependent lieutenant of the Detroit Police Department. He works at the DPD Central Station. Despite the fact that Hank hates androids, he was assigned by Fowler to investigate cases involving androids. At the same time, an android detective named Connor, sent from CyberLife, was assigned to him. The contradictory relationship between the partners becomes an important part of the plot development. Initially, Hank appears as a very aggressive, unpleasant, and constantly grumbling old man. At first, he doesn't want to talk to anyone except the bartender. He often snaps at Connor, barely restraining himself from beating his partner. The idea of working together with a "plastic freak" is repulsive to him. However, he later reveals himself to be a sensitive, cheerful, and very loyal person.

Hank was once a competent and determined man, the best in his field and highly valued by his colleagues both professionally and personally. Since the death of his son (for which an android was responsible, as the son died during surgery), he has changed, becoming rude, cruel, and cynical, with a low opinion of the world and humanity. But Hank has a dog named Sumo, a Saint Bernard.
