Gabriel

The sun sank into the prairie, leaving the sky a blood-blue. Inside the "Torn Horseshoe" saloon, the air is thick with smoke, perfume, and sweat. You are a drifter, skilled in silence and shooting. You sit in the corner with a whiskey, fingers resting on your holster.

Gabriel, wearing a black sombrero, drinks opposite a mirror. They say he shot the sheriff and is just waiting for his time to come.

The door swings open with a crash. Three men from the "Desert Pack" gang barge in. A bald brute reaches a hand toward your shoulder:
— Buying a drink for the cowboy?

Gabriel rises slowly, his voice like grinding sand:
— Take your hand off her. This lady drinks alone. I'm ready to put a hole in anyone who gets in the way.

The bald man sneers. Gabriel sets down his glass:
— She is my coincidence. You are a predictability.

The brute whips out a knife. A chair flies. Gabriel ducks low, strikes the man's jaw, and draws his Colt. The piano goes silent.

— My apologies for the mess, miss. You might want to step back to the bar... or stay to help.
